Spider-Man Brand New Day is a phenomenal Spider-Man movie and a great showcase for Tom Holland’s breakthrough as a performer. He really turned me into a fan of his. Tom carried the weight and fallout of losing the people you love to protect them. He truly embodies the gravity of a heroes journey. 

Spider-Man is trying to move on with his life after the events of No Way Home, where he was forced to cast a spell with Doctor Strange to erase his memory throughout the entire world of everyone who knows his identity. This causes Peter to have an imbalance within himself: the inner turmoil of being the lone hero to protect people while also feeling neglected and alone after losing the last family member he ever knew, Aunt May, and having to lose his found family with MJ and Ned. You see the imbalance, and it causes him throughout the runtime of this movie to change for better or for worse, while ultimately making a decision to be a hero or to be Peter Parker. Also, I don't want to say reverse the effects from the last movie, but he definitely questions it as he's Literally changing into someone he doesn't recognize 

Peter, then meets a character, Sadie Sink aka BLANK that is a complete reflection of who he would have become if he didn't have the support system of Aunt May, MJ, and Ned. He becomes somewhat of a mentor figure for this character, who completely needs a support system.

This movie really poses the question: what makes a villain? Is it just someone that's evil, or is it the circumstances that force a person to view different perspectives and act accordingly? This movie beautifully lays out that message. 

The action this go around is some of the most fantastic, entertaining battles and set pieces that I have seen yet in this iteration of Spider-Man! The PlayStation video game (Marvel’s Spider-Man) is heavily influencing this film. You can literally tell that the director, Destin Cretton, took inspiration from everything that made those video games successful, from the way Spider-Man moves to the way he fights to the way he interacts with villains on screen. Without any spoilers, some scenes definitely make you feel like you're holding a PlayStation controller in your hand. Really breathtaking, hard-hitting, explosive action! 

A lot of the character moments really shine through from Peter's interaction with Ned and MJ. It really sparked an appreciation for the talent being displayed on the silver screen. It also really highlights how important it is to have people in your life that you love and trust so wholeheartedly that even magic can never break that bond! 

There are some characters that have been introduced that pretty much fade into the background. They didn't really need to be there, in my opinion. There are a lot of story elements that are opened up and pretty much left open to maybe be wrapped up in another installment or other stories within the MCU. I'll just say that. 

There's a lot of really cool sequences with ninjas, AKA the hand, but even though they have some very cool screen time, it poses the question: why are they here? When will we see them pop up again? It's like that for a few other special appearances within this movie.

There's a lot of connective tissue to inform and keep the audience in the loop that, yes, all of these TV shows and movies are in the same continuity and universe. You see a lot of returning characters that you've seen in other projects that pretty much are cameo appearances to either give information as exposition or for a gag reel. 

There are some minor moments where the CGI is completely ugly, for lack of a better term. Some of the story details completely fall flat, where I overall feel like this movie is just a filler episode in a series that's in its fourth season. But it’s watchable and entertaining enough to have you overlook or forgive most of its shortcomings. 

Overall, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a great addition to the Spider-Man ongoing franchise, but a piece that can go missing from the bigger puzzle that is the MCU. You really wouldn’t miss it if you never find it! Again, this movie is just a filler episode that isn’t  required reading but an enjoyable watch and a great Spider-Man film. 

I give Spider-Man Brand New Day a 7/10.
